GLOBUL, WWF TO LAUNCH THIRD EDITION OF THE NATIONAL NATURE PARKS DAY
- 12 май 2011, 17:08
For a third consecutive year GLOBUL and the international environmental organization WWF will join efforts with volunteers from across the country in order to clean all of the 11 Bulgarian nature parks within the National Nature Parks Day initiative.
The joint initiative will be held on May 14, 2011, simultaneously at Vitosha, Rila Monastery, Zlatni Piasatsi, Vrachanski Balkan, Rusenski Lom, Stranja, Shumen Plateau, Bulgarka, Sinite Kamuni, Persina and Belasitza nature parks. Each year thousands of volunteers participate in cleaning tourist routes, renovating the routes and recreation areas marking, installing and restoring signs in the nature parks.
This year’s campaign is under the motto They can’t. You can. reminding that wild animals can’t clean the waste left by people at their homes, the nature parks, and that preserving the original state of these protected areas depends on visitors’ responsible behavior.
WWF and GLOBUL will provide cleaning supplies, including plastic bags and gloves, and transport for volunteers at some of the locations. Detailed information on the rally points and the initiative start time at each park is available at www.globulgreen.bg.
All willing to participate in the initiative can sign up at www.globulgreen.bg and join over 600 volunteers registered so far. Hundreds of GLOBUL and GERMANOS employees are expected to take part as well, and over 200 Facebook users already confirmed they would attend the National Nature Parks Day 2011 with GLOBUL event created in the social network.
Our support for the National Nature Parks Day initiative is part of our environmental sustainability strategy GLOBUL Green. The long-term goal we set together with our partners from WWF is for our society to adopt a sustainable culture which would make such initiatives unnecessary, GLOBUL Corporate Affairs Director Yassen Guev said at a press conference held today at the Georgi S. Rakovski National Defense Academy Park.
The event was also attended by WWF Bulgaria Program Manager Veselina Kavrakova, the Vitosha Nature Park ambassadors Simeon Kolev from BG Radio and TV host Niki Kunchev, and the Bulgarian band Gravity Co frontman Yavor Zahariev who will volunteer at Belasitza Nature Park.
