GLOBUL supports the Business Forum for the Green way out of the crisis

  • 25 June 2010, 14:29

Leading Bulgarian companies, government officials, foreign diplomats and experts signed the first of its kind Green Document which outlines five sustainable development dimensions of the Bulgarian economy. That was part of The Green Way Out of the Crisis - Clean Nature for New Economic Growth forum organized by Manager Magazine and GLOBUL.

The five leading dimensions as described in the Green Document include competitive and productive economy, preserved nature, clean environment, effective resource management and climate preservation.

The signatories of the Green Document shared opinions on the specific and realistic objectives for the country and on the priorities of their organizations. The Document is open to all companies that share the idea that Bulgaria’s future lies in the development of green economy.

The opportunities of creating and maintaining low carbon economy, clean technologies, green manufacturing and sustainable products and services usage were the main issues discussed by the forum’s participants and guestsincluding the Bulgarian Minister of Environment & Water, Nona Karadzhova, former EU-commissioner and present Member of the European Climate Foundation Management Board Meglena Kuneva, Sofia Municipality Investments and Investment Policy Director Emilia Zheleva, Henkel Bulgaria President Darina Stoyanova, Chairman of the Venture Equity Bulgaria Managing Board Svetoslav Bojilov, UniCredit Bulbank CEO Levon Hampartsumian, French ambassador Etienne de Poncins and the special guest of the event - European Climate Foundation expert Dries Acke.

At the event opening, the Manager Magazine Editor-in-Chief Maxim Mayer announced the launch of the initiative which joins the efforts of companies in the “green circle” to make Bulgaria’s economy stronger and greener.

“In every century, we had to deal with a certain issue of global importance. In the past, these were the liberties of the individual, the fight against race discrimination. Today, we face two important causes: personal identity protection and environmental balance”, GLOBUL Corporate Affairs Director Yassen Guev said in his welcome speech.

Former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva expressed her opinion on the green economy. “We tend to postpone environmental issues in time but now the environment is a business by itself”, Mrs. Kuneva said during the discussions.

„Each initiative aimed at preserving the environment which convinces people that there is no other way out but the green one, is very important”, the Minister of Environment & Water Nona Karadzhova said. “For me, the participation of the business in this forum tells a lot about the corporate social responsibility”, she added.

The support and participation in the The Green Way Out of the Crisis forum are part of GLOBUL’s long-term sustainable development strategy GLOBUL Green, which the company launched in 2008. GLOBUL is the first Bulgarian telecommunications company to develop and implement such a large-scale plan of measures and initiatives aimed at minimization of the company’s footprint on the environment, reduction in the use of resources and energy, promotion of reuse and recycling of materials as well as support for public initiatives in this area.
