About 3,000 volunteers took part in the National Nature Park Day initiative by the global environmental organization WWF and GLOBUL on May 29 and collected over 15 tons of waste at Bulgaria’s 11 nature parks.
The volunteers collected garbage and renovated the visitor infrastructure at some of the country’s most popular tourist and recreation areas in Bulgaria. In each of the parks a wooden bridge was built as a symbol of the connection between people and nature. This year Vitosha Nature Park’s five locations attracted a total of 800 volunteers.
WWF Bulgaria, GLOBUL and park authorities had provided all the necessary equipment, garbage bags and gloves for the volunteers. The most active participants won prizes from GLOBUL and WWF.
GLOBUL provided financial and logistic support to the WWF initiative within the framework of its GLOBUL Green long-term sustainable development strategy. About 130 GLOBUL and Germanos employees joined the project.
Once again, celebrities, actors, journalists, musicians and foreign diplomats joined the National Nature Park Day initiative. USA Ambassador to Bulgaria Mr. James Worlick, bTV news anchor Venelin Petkov and BG Radio anchor Simeon Kolev, Pari daily journalist Ivan Bedrov, actors Philip Avramov, Valery Yordanov and Yurii Angelov, pop stars Vanya Shtereva and Kamen Vodenicharov, ‘Bulgaria’s Got Talent’ Show participants ‘Beat 4 Fun’, bTV weather reporters Stanislava Tsalova and Hristina Balinska, photographer Alexanader Ivanov, of 360о Bulgaria fame, and Forte Radio journalist Ivan Kapralov were ‘ambassadors’ of the parks.
This was the third edition of the National Nature Parks Day initiative by WWF, and the second one to be supported by GLOBUL. The motto of this year’s campaign will be The Nature is Our Home - Stop the Dirty Tricks. Besides cleaning and renovation of the parks, the project aims to promote responsible behavior and protection of the Bulgarian nature.
Vitosha, Rila Monastery, Zlatni Piasatsi, Vrachanski Balkan, Rusenski Lom, Stranja, Shumen Plateau, Bulgarska, Sinite Kamuni, Persina and Belasitza nature parks are being visited by some 10 million tourists every year.
