GLOBUL and GERMANOS customers and employees collected for recycling 2,182 kg of obsolete mobile handsets, batteries and accessories in the first year since the start of the operator’s GLOBUL Green sustainable development program.
In the last twelve months, GLOBUL implemented a series of measures and initiatives aimed at environment protection and company footprint reduction under its sustainable development strategy GLOBUL Green.
In the second quarter of 2009 alone, GLOBUL reduced paper usage in its offices by 18% year-on-year and increased by 40% the quantity of paper collected and sent for recycling.
GLOBUL reduced the size of its products’ packaging and optimized the size of the brochures in the pre-paid and post-paid packs, achieving the paper use in these products by a total of 34,086 kg less since the beginning of 2009, equivalent of 800 saved trees.
GLOBUL donates working IT equipment that is no longer needed in the company to schools and universities.
GLOBUL and GERMANOS commercial network now uses only biodegradable bags hwere the plastic ones were replaced with ones made of degralen - an environmentally-friendly material that dissolves for 24 months in the nature or 100 times faster than the ordinary PVC bags.
In order to further reduce its carbon footprint, GLOBUL introduced electronic invoice and e-voucher for pre-paid cards recharge and further enhanced electronic document flow within the company.
Under the GLOBUL Green program, GLOBUL established partnership with the international environmental organization WWF and actively participated in the organization of the National Nature Park Day when some 2,300 volunteers and employees of the company collected 15 tons of waste in Bulgaria’s 11 nature parks. GLOBUL also joined WWF’s global Earth Hour 2009 initiative by turning off the lights and electrical devices in its administrative offices, as well as its largest advertising installations in major points in downtown Sofia.
In October 2009, GLOBUL supported the first Green Innovation Forum in Bulgaria. The goal of the forum was to demonstrate successful business practices directed at environment preservation.
“For GLOBUL to be green is not fashion and it is not simply the color of the company logo. It is conscious behavior on behalf of a socially responsible company and its green-minded employees. We believe that being green is an opportunity to create value for your company and for our brand and to do the right thing for the nature and the community”, Galina Chuleva, GLOBUL Advertising & Communication Director said in her opening words at the Green Innovation Forum.
GLOBUL will continue with its GLOBUL Green sustainable development program in 2010 and beyond and will maintain its focus on reducing its environmental footprint by saving and reusing resources and energy and recycling of equipment and materials by implementing new environmentally-friendly practices and policies and by supporting public initiatives in the field.
