Showbiz stars & celebrities to support WWF Bulgaria, GLOBUL National Nature Park Day initiative

Bulgarian showbiz stars, media personalities and foreign diplomats will join the National Nature Park Day initiative by the Bulgarian branch of the global environmental organization WWF and GLOBUL, to be held on May 23, 2009.
The celebrities will be ambassadors of the 11 nature parks in Bulgaria and will endorse the initiative by volunteering in the cleaning and the renovation of the infrastructure and the recreation areas in the 11 nature parks.
International tennis star Magi Maleeva, TV and radio host Niki Kunchev, together with the British Ambassador to Bulgaria Mr. Steve Williams and bTV news person Venelin Petkov will represent Vitosha Nature Park, RE:TV journalist Ivan Bedrov will again be the ambassador of Persina Nature Park near Belene, actor and comedian Philip Avramov will volunteer at the Bulgarka Nature Park near Grabrovo, while pop star Vanya Shtereva will join the effort at Rusenski Lom park. The head of the Consular Service of the Embassy of Germany Wolfgang Wendel will volunteer at Vrachanski Balkan park, pop-singer Vioki of the Mastilo band will join the effort at Shumen Plateau, bTV weather reporter Stanislava Traikova will be ambassador of Riski Manastir park and photographer Alexander Ivanov, of 360° Bulgaria fame, will be at the Sinite Kamuni park near Sliven.
This will be the second edition of the National Nature Parks Day initiative by WWF, the first one being held in fall 2007. Besides cleaning and renovation of the parks, the project aims to promote responsible behavior and protection of the Bulgarian nature. Thousands of volunteers are expected to join the effort in the Vitosha, Rila Monastery, Zlatni Piasatsi, Vrachanski Balkan, Rusenski Lom, Stranja, Shumen Plateau, Bulgarska, Sinite Kamuni, Persina and Belasitza nature parks which are being visited by some 10 million tourists every year.
GLOBUL will provide financial and logistic support to the WWF initiative within the framework of its GLOBUL Green long-term sustainable development strategy. Many company employees are also expected to join the project volunteers across the country.
GLOBUL launched its GLOBUL Green sustainable development strategy in 2008 with initial investment of BGN 400,000. The strategy includes a set of measures and initiatives, aiming to minimise the company’s footprint on the environment, promote reuse and recycling, raise public awareness and support public environmental projects. GLOBUL is the first telecommunications operator to develop and launch such initiative in Bulgaria.
