GLOBUL collects more than 900 kg of electronic waste for recycling - presents new initiatives in its globul green programme

  • 26 February 2009, 15:41

Bulgarian consumers have embraced GLOBUL’s initiative for mobile phones & accessories recycling, having deposited 930 kg of handsets, batteries and accessories in the 300 special collection bins in GLOBUL and GERMANOS shops across the country, since the launch of the company’s recycling programme in early November 2008, GLOBUL Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Dimitris Lioupis said today at a Press Conference in Sofia. During the Press Conference the company also presented its e-bill initiative, aimed in reducing paper usage.

“By February 25, 2009, 62 kg of the electronic waste were already transferred to the licensed recycling company Eltechresource AD, GLOBUL’s partner in the initiative. More quantities of obsolete mobile devices and accessories will be transferred for environment-friendly re-processing in the coming days and weeks”, said GERMANOS Chief Sales manager, Mr. Anatoly Georgiev.

GLOBUL’s recycling initiative is part of its wider long-term GLOBUL Green environment protection programme, launched in September 2008 with an initial investment of BGN 400,000. The programme includes a set of measures and initiatives, aiming to minimise the company’s footprint on the environment, promote reuse and recycling, raise public awareness and support environmental projects. GLOBUL is the first telecommunications operator to develop and launch such initiative in Bulgaria.

“We are happy with the public’s response to our programme and we would like to thank all citizens who participated. GLOBUL’s recycling programme will continue with the same consistency and we have all reasons to believe that we will over-achieve the initial target of 5 kg per collection point per year. That would mean that our strategy is moving into the right direction and enjoys the approval of Bulgarian consumers”, Mr. Lioupis commented.

Next projects: E-Invoice Original

During the press conference, GLOBUL also presented the next steps in its GLOBUL Green strategy.

As of March 4, 2009, residential clients of GLOBUL Smart, Smart Way & Smart Group, GLOBUL Max, Full Max & Super Max, GLOBUL National 50, National 100 and GLOBUL Tax Out subscription programs may give up receiving paper invoices and join GLOBUL efforts for further reducing the use of valuable natural resources required for the printing and delivery of monthly bills and invoices. Users may do so by declaring their wish at a GLOBUL shop or by activating, by April 30, 2009, the Е-Invoice Original service at GLOBUL’s Internet portal MyGLOBUL . Users who opt not to receive paper invoiceswill enjoy a 2% discount of the monthly fees for a period of 6 or 12 months depending on the remaining length of their contract term.

Е-Invoice Original is an electronic version of the monthly invoice which fully replaces the traditional printed invoices and complies to all accounting and auditing regulations. Е-Invoice Original is verified by GLOBUL’s electronic signature which guarantees the authenticity of the document and its content. Users may download the invoice as a standard PDF file or as an electronic signature-verified PDF file.

Furthermore, a project for the introduction of electronic (non-paper) contract is currently under development at GLOBUL. The project envisages all contract-related operations, including the actual signing of the contract by the client, to be performed electronically which will further reduce paper use at GLOBUL shops.

“GLOBUL Green Invoice and the Е-Invoice Original are the next important steps in our GLOBUL Green strategy and correspond to GLOBUL’s policy of fair and transparent relations with our customers and with Bulgarian society as a whole. These steps will give our clients more opportunities to actively join and support our efforts to protect the environment”, Mr. Lioupis said.

It is noted that GLOBUL has already developed an extensive paper recycling programme for its employees.

WWF

Under an agreement between GLOBUL and the Bulgarian branch of the international environmental organization WWF and within the framework of its GLOBUL Green strategy, the operator will support WWF’s initiative National Day of Natural Parks. The initiative will be held on May 23, 2009 when thousands of volunteers are expected to clean and restore popular tourist locations in Bulgaria’s 11 natural parks.
